About me

I’m Peter Hu, a therapist. I studied economics at Yale University before spending years working across different fields. That path taught me to listen carefully, see things from many angles, and meet people where they are. These days, my focus is simpler: paying close attention to people and what truly matters to them.

I know what it’s like to grow up in pre-repeal Singapore, learning to navigate questions of belonging and safety as a gay man. I’ve been in a committed relationship with my partner for 20 years, which grounds my belief in the importance of spaces where people can be fully themselves without fear or judgment.

I hold a Master of Counselling from the Executive Counselling and Training Academy and Flinders University, and I’m currently pursuing a PhD in organizational psychology, studying how organizations can become more trauma-informed. I try to bring that same awareness and care into my work with individuals—offering a steady, thoughtful presence so you can hear yourself more clearly and find what feels true and possible for you.

Who I help

I have a particular interest in serving people whose needs often go unseen.

I work with men who want to talk about what’s hard to name. From 2019 to 2023, male suicide numbers in Singapore were consistently higher than those for women, highlighting men's greater vulnerability to serious mental health challenges (Samaritans of Singapore, 2023).

In all age groups, LGBTQ+ adults experience higher rates of anxiety and depression than non-LGBTQ+ adults (U.S. Census Bureau, 2022). I journey with LGBTQ+ individuals—whether you’re navigating life on your own, looking for a partner, or finding hope through challenges. I also support couples and throuples in untying relationship knots.

Finding a therapist who truly affirms your identity can be life-changing. Whether you’re navigating coming out, dealing with family tensions, facing workplace discrimination, managing anxiety, growing older and experiencing loneliness, or seeking personal growth, my approach is tailored to your needs. Therapy here isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about supporting you in becoming the most authentic and confident version of yourself.

If you’d like to experience being really listened to by someone who’s totally on your side, contact me today for a no-obligation chat about how counselling will help you.
